Farming Methods
The Inca farmers had a very hard job. They had to feed the 13,000,000 plus people in the empire. The rainfall was highly unpredictable so as a result they had to save the most water possible. They had complex irrigation and drainage systems. They used the method of terraced hillsides to use as much land in the mountainous region. They had limited resources however they were able to grow many crops. They had 240 types of potatoes, lima beans, twenty varieties of corn, potato flour, squash, beans, cassava, quinoa, peanuts, and pepper. This abundance was able to feed millions of people along with a three to seven year surplus. This information relates to the fact that the Inca expressed higher knowledge in farming and many other things. Their elaborate orderliness shows they were far more advanced than the Spaniards made them out to be.
